      Ancestors

      from $95.00

Just like human beings, no art work is ever really finished. At intervals, they reach a comfortable holding pattern. These pages are from one of my image quest journals. They have taken years of layering and life to evolve into what you see right now.

      Family Tree #1

      from $95.00

Like human beings, no art work is ever really finished. At intervals, they reach a comfortable holding pattern. These pages are from one of my image quest journals. They have taken years of layering and life to evolve into what you see right now. After the 2003 fire my mom dug out photos to replenish our memories. Among them were ancestors I had not seen before. I was intrigued by the stance, the faces, and the surroundings. My father’s family, my mother’s family and my mother in laws family are all represented here in photo transfers of children, the homestead stoop, grandparents, parents and the family silver pattern.

      Maiden Of Fire

      from $1,300.00

The Maiden of Fire is my companion, as are all of my images. But she is most unique because of the rapport we have developed as she accompanied me through the years after my home and studio burned to the ground. She quenched my raging anger around my home, my master thesis and all of my art work burning, not once but twice. The Maiden first came to me through a small doodle, saying, “If you will simply step into the boat of making, I will carry you effortlessly to the other side of who you truly are”. This meant to me that if I could manage to let go of my rage towards God, my land and my story of what “home” was by beginning to make art that I would be lifted and carried effortlessly through the rebuilding process ahead. If you are interested in hearing more about this story please join us for a Salon Talk “Living with Images as Companions” on Feb 12, 5-6pm. This talk visually documents the stages of this painting and the dialog between myself and the images that emerged and changed during the time that we rebuilt, healed and ultimately moved back to our land.

      Seasoned Passion #1

      $500.00

My husband and I met when we were 15, that was 41 years ago. Since then we have essentially raised each other, our two children and built home after home. Who knew we would be such builders of homes?! Only for those who manage in these times to stay together for years on end; navigating year after year of marriage, children, teenagers, life, death, fires; essentially the building of a life, does passion have the chance to become seasoned. Seasoned; marinated, steeped in history, feelings, layers of passion both turbulent and loving is the only way a Seasoned Passion can be created. These paintings were made after our home burned and I longed to remember its physical-ness without emotionally falling apart again and again. So, I walked through our old how by sketching everything back into this reality- right onto the page; furniture, paint brushes, structural pass through, art work, stain glass hangings, family antiques… to remember them. Some made their way into these two paintings, along with layers of other ingredients that it takes to make seasoned passion; music, needlework, fall, winter, spring, summer, road maps, fabric, the marriage bed springs…

      Ways Of Remembering

      from $375.00

This acrylic painting is in homage to Manny Farber. Soon after the 2003 fires a friend took me to see a Manny Farber show. I had been dull with grief and shock. This was the first thing to spark the familiar ember of creativity within me. I place directly on the canvas the charred ruins that we had sifted from the rubble of our home and simply traced around them- these touchstones that once sustained me. They were broken, black and ruined but in my painting process they were mended, returned to brilliant color. They were restored and so in, this way, so was I.

      We Are All Middle Sisters

      $95.00

I am one of four sisters in my family. I am a middle sister. What I realized is that, in the grander scheme of family and sisterhood, we are all middle sisters. There are always older sisters in our mentors and younger sisters that we mentor and that gives us all the status of middle sister, which is the best of all worlds! This original was purchased by a woman from Ireland and is now in her collection. Beautiful Giclee prints are available!
