Hey!
I hope you enjoy this short video about making art while I was in Indonesia. The sounds, music, voices and drumming were all recorded while there, just last month. I found a stark contrast between the city and the rural regions, as you will see.
I’ve now learned a bit more about life in Bali, Vietnam, Thailand and Singapore. First of all, its good to know that in Vietnam the traffic signals are “just a suggestion”! And if you chew gum in Singapore you will be arrested!
In my journal I captured the exotic shadows, sounds and vibrant colors of Indonesia and was intrigued by Buda’s connection to Thailand’s Sacred White Elephants. On the MeKong Delta I rode in a small wooden boat (xuong) wearing a conical hat for protection from the sun, both used for centuries in Vietnam.
In a temple I witnessed a couple, dressed all in red, having wedding photos taken while surrounded by a cloud of fragrant incense. I followed the sound of chanting into a second temple and found myself in awe of a sacred ritual.
I wanted to share these experiences with you, as well as the art supplies that I took on my trip. I hope this inspires you to try a little art journaling next time you travel!

- Small Concertina/Accordion Sketchbook Journal
- Small jar Regular Gel Medium (for Regular Gel transfers of found images)
- Crayola Watercolor tray/brush
- Pencil/small hand held pencil sharpener
- Black permanent Marker
- Phone/camera (of course!)
- AND, I constantly gathered images along the way!
